New sample for JSON performance: mORMot vs SuperObject/XSuperObject/dwsJSON/DBXJSON

We have just added a new "25 - JSON performance" sample to benchmark JSON process, using well most known Delphi libraries...

A new fight
featuring
mORMot vs SuperObject/XSuperObject/dwsJSON/DBXJSON

On mORMot side, it covers TDocVariant, late binding, TSQLTable, ORM, record access, BSON...

We tried to face several scenarios:

  • parse/access/write iteration over a small JSON document,
  • read of deeply nested 680 KB JSON (here mORMot is slower than SO/dwsJSON),
  • read of one 180 MB JSON file (with on-the-fly adaptation to fit a record layout),
  • named access to all rows and columns of a 1 MB JSON table, extracted from a SQL request (with comparison with our ORM performance).

On average and in details, mORMot is the fastest in almost all scenarios (with an amazing performance for table/ORM processing), dwsJSON performs very well (better than SuperObject), and DBXJSON is the slowest (by far, but XE6 version is faster than XE4).

Register any class for proper TObjectList serialization

Up to now, the only way of directly serializing a list of class instances as a JSON array was to use a TCollection.

In fact, objects are not alone, just like mORMots tend to have a nice family:

You have either to let your collection class inherit from the new TInterfaceCollection type, either call the TJSONSerializer.RegisterCollectionForJSON() method.
Could sounds a bit over-sized for just a list of objects.

We have just added a new feature, adding a new "ClassName":"TMyObject" field in the JSON object serialization, and allowing it to create the proper class instance on both transmission sides, therefore able to properly let TObjectList be serialized and un-serialized.

SQLite3-powered, not SQLite3-limited

Our downloadable documentation has been enhanced, and contains now a description about the main feature of 1.15 version, i.e. "database agnosticism".

The core database of our mORMot framework uses the SQLite3 library, which is a Free, Secure, Zero-Configuration, Server-less, Single Stable Cross-Platform Database File database engine.

As stated below, you can use any other database access layer, if you wish.
A fast in-memory engine (TObjectList-based) is included, and can be used instead or together with the SQLite3 engine.
Or you may be able to access any remote database, and use one or more OleDB, ODBC, ZDBCTDataSet, (or direct Oracle) connections to store your precious ORM objects.
The SQlite3 will be used as the main SQL engine, able to JOIN all those tables, thanks to its Virtual Table unique feature.

(article updated after removal of the TSQLRecordExternal class type for revision 1.17 - note also that BATCH process is now directly supported by the framework and converted to bound array parameters if available)
